Starting this Tuesday, April 12th, the Lacrosse state playoffs begins with your Green Level Gators coming off a 3 win streak against Apex 14-7 away, Jordan home at senior night 18-1, and against Green Hope, finishing a 3 conference games winning streak with a 11-3 win away, and a 10-2 streak in the past 12 games.
The Gators are the 4th seed this year and get a first round bye, playing the winner of #12 conference rivals Panther Creek or #5 Northwest Guilford this Friday the 15th.
“This season was really good, we ended on a really positive run and I think we just want to keep it going and that made us really confident for playoffs.” says sophomore Kane Robertson. Although the Gators have a really tough bracket, Robertson believes this team is able to go all the way and win states for the second time in the school’s history.
Green Level’s Men’s Lacrosse team has been really successful in the postseason in the past 2 seasons, losing in 3rd round last year and winning the state championship 2 years ago in an overtime thriller against Lake Norman by 11-10.
Many of the seniors this year were sophomores on that winning team back in 2024, and according to Kane, “They really take you on their back, and they are not afraid to tell you straight up if you’re not playing good and need to do better, but they’re also very caring and overall are just great leaders”.
Kyle Sopko, Green Level Men’s Lacrosse coach, says him and the boys “aren’t ready for this season to be over”.
“Our second half of our season started to show how strong we were once everyone was healthy and healed. The chemistry is there and the boys are building their confidence up game by game.” says Coach Sopko.
Sopko says that being able to get a first-round bye shows the strength of the team, and their hope is to go 1-0 every time they step on the field.
