The Green Level women’s soccer team showed resilience and determination this week, earning a strong comeback win before facing one of the toughest teams on their schedule.
On Monday, April 13, the Gators defeated one of their biggest rivals, Panther Creek 4-1 on the road. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the team came out energized in the second half and scored four unanswered goals to secure the win. Goals came from Marley Meyers, Audrey Hetfeld, Sanvi Patel, and Katie Hummel.
Katie Hummel and Marley Meyers were named Gators of the Match on offense, with Meyers scoring her first goal of the season. The victory brought Green Level’s record to 4-8-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the QC7 conference. Panther Creek, now 3-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play, remains at the bottom of the standings.
Freshman varsity player Sanvi Patel highlighted areas the team is focusing on improving.
“I think that we can work on being proactive when attacking and getting better at finishing and making quicker passes and by staying more organized overall,” Patel noted.
On Wednesday, April 15, the Gators took on Union Pines at the Swamp and fell 3-0. Union Pines, a strong team with an 11-4-1 overall record and an undefeated conference record, led 1-0 at halftime before scoring twice late in the second half.
Reflecting on the match, Patel acknowledged the level of competition.
“I think for the Union Pines game they were definitely a quality opponent. I think it could have been a winnable game with a little bit of luck. I think they were good and we put up a strong fight,” said Patel.
Despite the loss, center backs Kaitlyn Steward and Alex Hill were named Gators of the Match for their defensive performance.
Even with mixed results this week, the team remains optimistic about the rest of the season.
“I think we still have a good chance of winning the QC7 conference title,” Patel said.
As the season continues, the Gators will look to build on their momentum today travelling to Fuquay-Varina to face Willow Spring.
