Green Level High School is buzzing with excitement as students prepare for Gatorsgiving, a cherished event that brings advisory classes together to celebrate Thanksgiving. This year, Gatorsgiving will take place on November 26, the day before the holiday break, and the anticipation is palpable.
After its absence last year, Gatorsgiving’s return feels like a nostalgic revival for juniors and seniors. The event, which began in the 2022-23 school year, had quickly become a beloved tradition. Students are thrilled to participate once again, bringing their contributions and sharing in the festive spirit with their advisory classes.
Riley Surmacewicz, a Junior and fellow gator, expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m really looking forward to hanging out with people I care about. There’s something special about sharing a meal and reflecting on everything we’re thankful for.” The sentiment is shared by many, with hallways filled with chatter about plans for the big day.
For Isabella Demasi, another Junior, the news of Gatorsgiving’s return was a cause for celebration. “When I heard about it, I literally screamed,” she said with a beaming smile.
To ensure every advisory had what they needed, students were assigned items to bring based on their last names.
Isabella is excited to contribute, explaining, “I’m bringing napkins. It’s a small thing, but it’s all about everyone coming together to make it work.” Her advisory will be partnering with Mr. Sopko’s class, which she says makes the event even more fun.
Meanwhile, Riley has chosen to bring a treat that’s sure to delight. “I’m bringing mini cinnamon rolls from Publix. I just hope everyone loves them as much as I do. And if they don’t,” she joked, “that just means more for me!”
While the food and fun are the heart of Gatorsgiving, the event also serves as a reminder of what Thanksgiving is truly about: gratitude.
Riley reflected on what she’s thankful for this year, sharing, “I’m so grateful for my healthful living class. It’s taught me some things I’ll use in life, which feels rare in school.”
For Isabella, gratitude takes on a humorous twist: “Honestly, I’m thankful for AP Physics. It’s an easy A, and I’ll take any win I can get!
As the day approaches, Gatorsgiving promises not only delicious treats and shared laughter but also an opportunity for students to pause and appreciate the connections and memories they’re making.
