Under a Carolina moon and with a crowd of thousands packed into the Coastal Credit Union Music Park, Tyler Childers delivered a performance on Wednesday, April 23rd that was nothing short of electric.
Touring in support of his latest album “Rustin In the Rain”, Childers brought his raw, heartfelt sound to Raleigh, leaving fans with an unforgettable night of music, meaning, and brought in a deep sense of community.
The venue was buzzing with anticipation long before Tyler took stage. The amphitheater offered a perfect backdrop for Childers’ blend of country, folk, and bluegrass. The opening act, Deer Tick, warmed up the stage, serving as a strong lead in for the powerful main event.
Childers’ took the stage with quiet confidence, singing the acoustic version of some of his most popular songs, “Shake the Frost”, “Lady May”, “Nose on the Grindstone”, and “Follow You to Virgie.” Afterwards, he dove into new tracks from “Rustin in the Rain.” The album, which debuted at #10 on the Billboard 200, explores themes of love and hardship-none more compelling than his breakout single “In Your Love.”
Childers’ also spoke in between songs about the importance of community, conservation, and staying grounded in one’s roots- a message that stuck with the diverse crowd.
One attendee of this concert was Green Level student Harper Willis. Willis has been a Childers’ fan for an extremely long time.
“The concert was so amazing and so much fun. I got seat tickets so I had a really good view of him and his whole band. From the moment he started playing you could definitely feel a connection between him and the crowd which made it all the more fun” says Willis.
If last night’s performance proved anything, it was that Tyler Childers’ has such an authentic style of music, and he’s not just a singer, he is also a storyteller.
