It is officially that time of the year again, and daylight saving is back. This past Sunday night, the time changed and added an extra hour of nighttime to the clock. The weather switched and now it is getting darker and lighter way earlier than before. Now when you wake up for school and look out the window, it will look like the middle of the day but if you look out the window at around 5:00 PM, it will already look like midnight.
Students have mixed opinions about whether or not they like this time change, or wish it stayed the same. Some of them like it being lighter earlier and others prefer it being lighter later.
Junior at Green Level High School Tarini Vakada, likes when it gets dark later in the day so that she feels like she can fall asleep earlier.
“I prefer when it gets dark later because I feel like my day is over and it’s time to go to sleep when it’s 5 o clock.” Vakada said
She also feels like teachers should adjust schedules around daylight saving time because since the time is changing, it is affecting people’s attitudes so the students should be able to have a small break during this time to adjust.
Freshman at Green Level High School, Adelle Phillippi prefers when it gets darker earlier and it makes her feel like it is the holiday season
“I prefer when it gets darker because it makes it feel like it is Christmas time.” Phillippi says
While Phillippi only likes when it is darker and lighter later, Vakada likes both, but prefers the later timing.
“If I had the choice to get rid of daylight saving I wouldn’t because I really enjoy the extra hour of sleep that people get and most students don’t get enough sleep, but at the same time I hate how the sun sets earlier and gets dark super fast and I feel like it just changes everything.” Says Vakada.
Overall the common choice here is that people like when it gets dark earlier but many students still love the other way and wish it stayed lighter earlier.
