Varsity Soccer Recap of the Week

J. Murray, Staff Writer

The Gators took on their two biggest rivals this week. They traveled to Panther Creek on Monday where they took the Catamounts whiskers with a score of 4-2. The Gators came out fast with a score of 4-0 then the Catamounts tried to make a late push and bumped the score to 4-2. Gabe Karakostansis started the night off with a great finish. The score was 1-0 Green Level at halftime. The Gators started to pick up the intensity with Tyler Napier netting two goals and Josh Murray getting on the stat sheet with one as well.

On Wednesday they took on the other Highway 55 school in Green Hope. This game was played at Green Level and was head to head almost all the way through the game. Nicholas Pucci came up with a huge save on a penalty kick in the first half. As the clock was nearing 0:00 Kyle Covington had arguably the goal of the year with a volley off of Braden Anghie’s great cross that went bar down for the goal. Green Hope sneaked a goal in as there were around 10 minutes left in the second half. This sent the game to another OT for the Gators. Josh Bevan found a little bit of room and took advantage of it as he scored the game-winning goal for Green Hope.

The Gators will close out their first set of conference games next week as they take on Apex Friendship on Monday.

The Gators will want to bounce back from their first meeting against Cary which was a score of 3-3, this will take place on Wednesday.
