The MVP award is one of the most decorated ever in all of sports and is what I believe to be the biggest individual accomplishment in the NBA. The most outstanding player is honored at the end of the season for who had the most impactful season when it came to helping their team win and putting up incredible numbers. There are 3 players this year that are all in the front running giving each other a run for their money. They are Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and Sahi Gilgeous-Alexander. These three players have separated themselves from everybody else in the best basketball league in the entire world.

Luka Doncic is the leading scorer in the NBA scoring 34 ppg following with almost a triple-double of 10 assists and 9 rebounds. The Dallas Mavericks are a 5 seed heading into the playoffs and will be a tough opponent for the LA Clippers in the first round. Luka Doncici will look to lead his team with his dominant scoring and facilitating. He is a 6’7 guard who can shoot it from anywhere and has some of the best passing skills in all of the NBA. There is no doubt he has the talent to take his team to a deep run in the playoffs. I believe he is the most dominant player in the NBA in an overall aspect.

Nikola Jokic is a center who won this award last year and has continuously been the most dominant big man in the league over the past couple of years. He is averaging 26 ppg, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists. He has also led the Denver Nuggets to the number 2 team in the West as they will face the New Orlean Pelicans in the first round. Jokic is a 7ft center with the skill set of a guard. He is the best passing big man in the NBA as he makes everybody around him better as he attracts double teams and finds his open teammates for easy buckets. If you don’t double-team him he uses his incredible footwork to work around better athletes to get to the rim or he can step out and hit a three. There’s not much he can’t do and he is definitely deserving of the MVP award this year.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a young shifty guard who is a winner. He has led the Oklahoma City Thunder to the number 1 seed in the West to face the LA Lakers in the first round of playoffs. He is doing this with the youngest team in the league at his age doing what he does is incredible. He is second in scoring as he averaged 30 ppg along with 5 rebounds and 6 assists. He scores at an incredible rate and is able to get to the line at a consistent rate which is one reason why people don’t respect his scoring but others also say it’s so hard to guard him all you can do is foul. Being so young putting up those numbers while also being a winner which is what matters most in this league leaves no doubt in my mind that he should be an MVP winner.

These three individuals have consistently proven to be top dogs in the NBA. There is a variety of aspects that come into choosing the regular season MVP but these three all made their own case. Luka is a dominant player of his own and has incredible numbers but has not been winning as much as the other two. Jokic has great all-around stats and has also made an impact on winning, giving his team a great position to take over in the playoffs. Lastly, Shai who is the winningest of all and puts up great points but some take away credit from his surplus free throws and lower numbers compared to others in assists and rebounds. Overall all these players have had a huge impact on their team and made a great case for why they should have the opportunity to win the MVP award.
