This past weekend, Green Level had 4 different teams in State Championships, one of them being the gymnastics team. They competed on Saturday, November 1, at the Raleigh School of Gymnastics, where they put on an impressive performance. The team finished 3rd overall, which reflected their months of hard work, teamwork, and consistency this season.
Junior Caroline Dobrowski led the team once again, earning All-Around Individual State Champion for the second year in a row. She finished with a 38.925 out of 40, including 2nd in Bars with a 9.950 and 2nd on beam with a 9.825. Junior Colby Kessler also had a great performance, placing 5th overall for All-Around Individual, and she received
4th on Beam with a 9.800.
Gymnastics scoring includes 4 main events: Bar, Beam, Floor, and Vault. For each event, you are scored out of 10 points, with 10 being a perfect score. The total adds up to a 40-point All-Around score, which tests balance and precision in every routine.
Dobrowski says, “My favorite event has to be floor because it allows me to show my personality and overall just have the most fun.”
Looking back on their season, Dobrowski said that one of her favorite memories was winning the conference this year as a team, which gave them confidence heading into States.
After the meet, Dobrowski said she was proud of how she performed and how the team came together at the right time. She explained that it felt rewarding to see their hard work pay off after their successful season.
Gymnastics team member, Freshman Maddie Dzminski, who was injured earlier in the season, says, “It was fun to watch the girls compete because it really shows their work ethic in practice and the reward.”
While competition was tough, Dobrowski mentioned that she felt that the judging was unfair at the meet.
She says, “Even though it made us frustrated, we just tried to stay positive and uplift each other.”
The Green Level Gymnastics team’s strong finish at the State Championship highlights their talent and dedication. With a 3rd-place team finish and another individual state title for Dobrowski, the Gators continue to build a lasting legacy in North Carolina high school gymnastics.
