On Wednesday, November 26th at 8pm sharp, the final season of Stranger Things premiered on Netflix. This beloved series has been on air since July 15, 2016, and the show is coming to a close with the fifth season.

“I’ve been watching Stranger Things with my family since it first came out on Netflix. Even at a young age, I appreciated the show so much,” said Sophomore Saanvi Yeramaddu. “Every season continues to get better and all of the events really are starting to make sense and connect.”
The series is set in a fictional town of Hawkins Indiana in the fall of 1983. The place seemed ordinary: bike rides at dusk, sleepovers filled with fun, friendships that feel unbreakable, and Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. But underneath that familiar surface, something restless stirs. Strange lights flicker in the woods, the air shifts without warning, and whispers echo in places no one should be able to hear.
Stranger Things blends the charm of classic adventure stories with the creeping unease of a world split open. When the veil between Hawkins and a darker dimension known as the “Upside Down” begins to tear, the town is pulled into a battle it never asked for.
Darkness and higher powers leak in, slowly at first, then with terrifying force. Creatures with impossible shapes roam the shadows, and an unseen presence seems to lurk from every corner. The goal of these creatures are clear: take over the town of Hawkins and everyone in it.
But what makes Stranger Things truly unforgettable isn’t just the monsters or the intense, quick battles, it’s the people who refuse to let their town fall apart.
The main kids in Hawkins consist of Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, Will Byers, Max Mayfield, and Eleven. This group of friends, accompanied by other teens and adults becomes an unlikely force of resilience. They run toward the danger the other citizens are oblivious to.
Throughout the entire series, over and over again, Hawkins and this core group are tested. There is bravery in the chaos, humor in the tension, and light and hope woven into even the darkest moments. The show has proven you can balance terror with heart, giving us scenes that make us laugh, shout, and hold our breath all at once.
At its core, Stranger Things is a story about connection, testing how far people will go to protect someone they care about, even when the world twists into something unrecognizable. It’s about the mysteries hidden beneath everyday life and the idea that even the seemingly most quiet and calm places can hold the loudest and most disruptive secrets.
“For me, Stranger Things is one of the few shows that creates a full experience every time I watch it,” says Yeramaddu.
With each episode, let alone season, the stakes sharpen. The shadows grow longer, and the truth of the Upside Down becomes a little clearer. However, the spirit of the show remains constant: where there is darkness, there is resilience, where there is fear, there is bravery, and where there are impossible odds, there are people who refuse to prove those odds correct.
So in the wise words of Jim Hopper, “When life hurts you, because it will, remember the hurt. The hurt is good.” Stranger Things is proof that even when the world turns upside down, there is still something worth fighting for.
