Wicked for Good came out on November 21st. During the movie’s first weekend, an estimated 10 million people attended screenings in North America. This is the second movie in the Wicked saga; the first one gained immense popularity, with people falling in love with the songs and actors.
There are some very famous actors in these movies, such as Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum. Having these actors really captivated the audience and encouraged more people to go out and give Wicked a watch.
These movies were made in inspiration from the Broadway musical Wicked. In the musical, there are two halves with an intermission separating them. This is why there are two Wicked movies. Wicked is about the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. It goes through their relationship and the roller coaster of their lives.
Junior Finley Nelson loves Wicked and even went to see the musical on Broadway. After seeing both movies, she liked Wicked For Good more than the first one. She liked that the plot was more developed and there wasn’t as much repetition.
She also appreciated the character development that her favorite character, Galinda, went through.
Nelson said, “She had a really big character change at the end of the movies, and I’ve always liked Ariana Grande.”
Nelson absolutely loved the musical and seeing it in real life on stage, but she did think that the movies had better elements.
“The way they did it on stage versus the special effects and everything in the movie,” said Nelson, “I think that they just brought it all together a little bit more.”
Mrs. Landa is the Animal Science teacher; she teaches both one and two. She preferred the first Wicked movie better because she liked the music and thought of it as more of a classic. However, she did not think the movies were as good in comparison to the musical.
“Because I saw the musical before I’d seen the movie, when the movie ended I didn’t feel like it had concluded,” said Landa. “Whereas in the musical it had that surprise ending, with the movie we had to wait a whole year to see the ending.”
Despite liking the musical better, she does think that the movies had great elements to them.
Landa said, “I feel like the movies were a lot brighter and colorful compared to the musical. I think the movies also have more talking, so I guess this provides more context.”
Junior Brynn Crawford has never seen the musical, but agrees that the colorfulness of the movies really captured her attention when she watched them.
“Especially in the second movie, I felt like the colors in the background helped to show the happy and sad parts.”
Crawford liked the first movie just a little bit more than the second movie, mostly because of the music.
“I felt like the first movie just had catchier songs, like Popular was stuck in my head for weeks after watching it,” Crawford said, “None of the songs in the second movie really gave me that feeling.”
There are many different opinions about Wicked For Good compared to Wicked Part 1. Especially depending on seeing the musical before or not. Make sure to go take a watch before it’s out of theaters to see the ending of the saga and to hear some incredible songs and vocals.
