The weather lately has been feeling more like summer than winter. Many days have reached temperatures in the high 70s and even the low 80s. With more sunshine and clear skies, the Swamp has felt brighter, and many students are starting to wonder if summer might be coming earlier than usual.
Another reason it feels more like summer is because of the recent time change for Daylight Saving Time. When the clock moves forward, the sun sets later in the evening. With more daylight after school, the longer evening make it feel more like summer is around the corner
Students have noticed the change around the school. More people are spending time outside, enjoying the sunshine during lunch or after school tanning. Some students have even started wearing shorts and T-shirts again as the temperatures continue to stay warm.
Freshman Maddie Ellis even went on a day trip to the beach last weekend.
“It was so nice to be at the beach in the beginning of March, even though the water was cold. I even got a tan in just a few hours.” Ellis said.
The combination of warmer temperatures and later sunsets has made the days feel longer and more energetic.
Junior Ava Cecil has been motivated with the warm weather to work out, outside.
“I love going on runs in the morning with these high temperatures and a breeze. I can get my daily workout in and get a tan!” Cecil explains.
Even though these warm days feel like a preview of summer, weather can still change quickly as spring approaches. Cooler days may still happen before the season fully settles in.
For now, the sunny weather and longer evenings have given everyone something to look forward to as the school year continues and spring break approaches.
