This past Saturday, the Green Level Marching Band ended with a finale at the Cary Band Day, closing out their 2025 season.
The Gators were one of 37 marching bands who competed at the 66th edition of the Cary Band Day, where they placed third overall in class 6A, finishing behind two other nearby high schools, Green Hope and Panther Creek.
Green Level’s performance was highlighted by a first place finish from the drum majors and a second place finish by the color guard.
Director of Bands Brian Myers was pleased with the band’s performance at Cary Band Day, especially after coming off a pair of high-profile competitions in Florida and Delaware in the past month.
“The kids were really proud and excited, and that’s all we wanted was the last performance to be the best one.” Myers said.
Junior Soren Cornwell, a trumpet section leader in the band, also expressed his satisfaction with the band’s performance at Cary and throughout the season, which has been underway since summer practices started in July.
“I think we started the season a little slow, but we got into it towards the end, and everybody had a very good time,” Cornwell said. “We all felt super happy about our performance at Cary, and I think we performed really well.”
Along with weather and logistical obstacles the band faced throughout the season, the band also had 60 new members this season, adding on to the adversity they endured.
“Just trying to get the new members to figure out how to move, that’s a huge learning curve,” Myers said. “Our show is also complex from the start, and we add stuff throughout the season. So not just did they get better, but we added extra responsibilities in their show, which is a huge change.”
With more growth expected in the band program in the upcoming year, Myers expressed his excitement for the direction the band is heading towards, and elaborated on the band’s approach to building on to another successful year after their 2025 campaign.
“A lot of times, programs take years of success to get to where we are now with size and quality,” Myers said, “but we’re still learning as a staff, and the kids are still developing a culture, but they’re definitely eager and excited. The future is definitely bright.”
Even though the band’s performance at Cary Band Day shut the door on the competitive season, the band will still perform in several holiday parades. From the famed Raleigh Christmas Parade on November 22nd, to the Apex Christmas Parade on December 6th, and the Cary Christmas Parade on December 13th, there will be more opportunities this season to see the great Green Level Marching Band in action.
