The second semester is off to a great start, and next week our school is celebrating Spirit Week! The week will end in an exciting way on Friday, February 20th, with Gator Day and a Pep Rally. The school will follow an alternate schedule in the morning, and then Gator Day will begin at 12:00 and last until 2:18. The Pep Rally will be included during that time to close out Spirit Week.
Ms. Evans, our school librarian who helps organize the event, explained what Gator Day is all about.
Ms. Evans said, “Gator Day is a day when the whole school community—kids, school, and faculty—has time where we get to really embrace our school value of community.”
She shared that it is a chance for everyone to come together and celebrate what makes our school special. Clubs are able to invite anyone who wants to participate in their activities, giving students the opportunity to try something new.
Ms. Evans also noted, “They get to have fun and learn something new during the school day.”
Gator Day gives students a break from the normal routine and allows them to connect with others in a fun and meaningful way.
Freshman Avery Mertz shared her plans for Gator Day. She plans on attending FCA, where the first 12 students will receive a donut. There will also be games for students to enjoy, making it a fun and welcoming activity.
The Pep Rally will also feature exciting performances. Freshman Sophie Kimbark, who plays Jojo in Seussical TYA, shared that they are planning to perform the opening number, ‘Oh, The Thinks You Can Think!’
“I think that performing at the pep rally, as well as having a Seussical-themed spirit day, will definitely bring more attention to the musical.”
The dance team will also perform at the Pep Rally. They will be doing a hip-hop dance as their final performance of the season after competing at UDA Nationals. Students are also wondering if we will see Mator again!
Spirit Week is always full of energy and school pride, and ending it with Gator Day and the Pep Rally makes it even more special. February 20th is definitely a day students will not want to miss!
