With the first day of Advanced Placement Exams beginning on Monday, May 4th, that leaves only 18 days of instruction left, and then the two week period of tests begin. Not only Green Level, but students across the entire country are entering one of the most important stretches of the school year.
These exams, administered by the College Board, give high school students the opportunity to earn college credit and demonstrate mastery in challenging, college level courses. While the pressure can feel intense, this final month is a crucial time to prepare effectively and build confidence.
For many students, April becomes a balance between reviewing months of material and managing other responsibilities like sports, clubs, and regular coursework. The key to success during this time is consistency. Instead of cramming, students benefit most from creating a realistic study schedule that breaks apart material into manageable units.
“I have three AP Exams this year, and I’ve started studying for all of them now,” stated Ashley Weirich, Green Level Sophomore. “I didn’t want to feel more stressed out than was necessary, so I’ve been studying slowly to make sure it’s at a reasonable pace and level,” Weirich claimed.
Teachers also play a vital role in this final stretch, often holding review sessions, sharing practice questions, and offering targeted support. Many classes shift their focus entirely to exam preparation, giving students structured time to revisit essential content.
“I’ve made sure that my classes are finishing up the last of the material while also giving students the opportunity to study the entire course. We give students more study tools than they need to ensure they feel comfortable and prepared,” stated Bailegh Baker, AP United States History and AP Government and Politics teacher.
Equally as important is maintaining a healthy routine. Knowing your content is essentially, but so is getting enough sleep, staying organized, and taking breaks to avoid burnout.
So, as AP exams approach, it’s normal to feel a mix of stress and anticipation. However, this period is also an occasion for students to reflect on how much they’ve learned throughout the year, and how far they’ve come.
With steady preparation and the right mindset, students can walk into their exams feeling ready to succeed, and prosper.
