The Green Level Cross Country team has made school history this season! The girls’ team dominated the course, bringing home the State Championship title, while the boys earned an impressive 6th-place finish in a highly competitive field.
Green Level junior Naomi Greengrass is a notorious record-holder for the cross-country team. Her performance during the championship was remarkable, nonetheless, and she explains how intricate the culture is for the Green Levels cross country team.
“A big thing in the cross country world is your team culture, so like preparing for the state meet, we would always do a pasta party and just carb up to prepare, and I feel like that really brings us all together and relieves everyone’s stress because it’s so stressful, especially a state meet,” says Greengrass.
From difficult practices to the finals, both teams showed what it truly means to be a Gator by pushing through and giving it their all!
Naomi Greengrass also explains how to keep your head level and how to make it easier when times get tough while running.
“I feel like whenever it starts to get hard mentally during your race, you can always look for your teammate around you, you go through the toughest moments during practices with them. So, going back to the team and not doing things just by yourself.” Said Greengrass.
Senior Sadie Wortman ran a time of 18:48:64, placing 7th in the 8A Girls 5000 Meter Run Finals. And Naomi Greengrass ran a time of 19:15.85 in the same division, placing 18th.
Senior Mohammed Mohammed ran a time of 15:52.03 in the 8A Boys 5000 Meter Run Finals, placing 6th. Senior Nick Morizio ran a time of 16:14.82 in the same division.
All in all, both the men’s and women’s Cross Country teams proved successful. All of their scores are a testament to their remarkable season. Congratulations to all runners!
