Green Level’s chorus program is preparing for its winter concert on Tuesday, December 9, after weeks of steady rehearsals across all three choirs—Level Choir, Bella Voce, which is the advanced-audition only group, and Tenor-Bass, which includes all male singers. The program includes a variety of pieces such as Moon Goddess and Under the Willow, giving the group a chance to highlight their different strengths.
One of the most popular pieces among the students is Moon Goddess, known for its strong harmonies and energetic style that contrasts the slow melody of Under the Willow. Sophomore Priyanka Prabhushankar, part of the Bella Voce choir, said it quickly became a favorite during rehearsals.
“It’s such a fun song to sing as a group,” she explained. “Once we started perfecting the harmonies, everything else just fell into place.”
Preparing for the concert hasn’t been without challenges, however. “The hardest part has definitely been keeping our vocal stamina up,” Prabhushankar said. “Some of the songs demand a lot of control for a long period of time, so it can get really difficult pretty quickly. But pushing through has helped us all grow stronger as singers.”
In addition to the main choirs, two student-led ensembles will also take the stage. Octav8, a group of eight Bella Voce singers, and six Tenor Bass singers have been rehearsing independently to prepare their own pieces. These groups manage their own rehearsals and musical choices, bringing a fully student-led element to the concert.
Despite the hard work, the energy around the upcoming performance is high. The students are motivated not just by the music, but by the chance to show how much the group has progressed over the past few months. “We’re all really excited for the concert. We’ve put in so many hours building our sound, and I think people will really hear the difference,” Prabhushankar said.
After weeks of steady preparation, the chorus program is ready to take the stage this Tuesday to give the school community a chance to look at the hard work they put in.
