Green Level volleyball faced a top opponent, the Cox Mill Chargers, on Wednesday, September 27th. This game was an NCHSAA appreciation night, where Green Level Athletic Director Colin Fegeley and Cox Mill Athletic Director Ty Johnson, started off the night by addressing some of the recent criticism of the association and announced that they stand with the NCHSAA, highlighting how beneficial the association has been to North Carolina sports.

Going into the match, the Gators were ranked at No. 7 and the Chargers were at No. 10 in the state. A faceoff against two top 10 non-conference teams at this time in the season is unusual, but this game may have been a sneak peek into how the teams will perform when trying to win a state title later in the season.

Starting off strong, the Gators won the opening set 25-10 through the strong offensive performances from So. Riley Taylor and Sr. Asia Thigpen. The Chargers were looking for a comeback and finished the second set 25-20, but the Gators shut down by winning both the third and fourth set to take home the W.

Reflecting on the win, Sr. Ellie Naemaura said, “This past season everyone has been working so hard, and to get a big win like this at a time like this is really rewarding and validating of all the time we have put in”. The Gators were able to hold on to their top 10 ranking, and hopefully will continue this momentum through the rest of the season.
