This Thursday, February 13th, the Men’s Basketball team faced off against Apex Friendship to win the SWAC Regular Season Championship. The Green Level men’s team was able to secure the title in back-to-back seasons but still wants to win the conference tournament to secure a higher seed in state playoffs.
“Winning back-to-back regular season championships is nice but the goal isn’t reached yet, we still have a long way to go.” said head Men’s Basketball Coach Green
In the win, Isaac Ericksen had 17 points and 18 rebounds which is a career-high in rebounds for him. Trevor Manhertz added 10 points with Garrett Midkiff having 7 points. The Gators seek to win the conference tournament championship at Middle Creek.
Today the Green Level Women’s team will face off against Apex Friendship. They both sit at 11-2 in conference play. The last time these two teams matched up, the Gators secured the win 65-58. I asked Senior Stella Eckhart how she felt after the last game.
“We played a really good game as a team and were able to pull out a big win at home against a very good team.”
This will be a massive game in an electric environment. The Patriots’ star player Jasmine Nivar will be the one to stop. She has had an incredible season and will be a force for the Gators. Junior Claire Barber gave her point of view on how she wants this game to be played.
“We need to control the pace of the game and try to slow Jasmine down. They are a very high-paced team which will also give us the opportunity to knock down a ton of threes”
It seems the Gators have their game plan and will be locked in today in hopes to secure the title along with the men’s team. It will be an incredible achievement for the basketball program to each win the title in the same year. After an exciting Men’s game we can’t do anything but look forward to the excitement and energy that will be brought tonight at 6:30.
