Green Level Men’s and Women’s basketball teams both have their first game of the season tonight! The home opener will take place at the swamp on Friday November, 14th, with the Women’s game starting at 6:30pm, and the Men’s starting at 8pm. Both teams had a successful past season, each ending with a winning record.
The Men’s team ended last season with a 26-5 record, making it to the fourth round of the NCHSAA and having one of the most successful seasons so far. The team had a total of eight seniors that led the team and had a tremendous impact on the team’s achievements. Sophomore Roman Nelson is a member of the varsity team and plays a key role in the team’s dynamic.
“We definitely did lose a lot of seniors, and that will definitely have a major impact on the team,” Nelson said. “I also think that we gained a few people, like Andrew, that should help make up for that loss. Broughton will be a tough game but I don’t think it’s anything we aren’t ready for and we have been preparing for a while with workout and practices.”
The Women’s team is also going to be facing Broughton, and it will be a tough game for them as well. They finished last season with a record of 19-10, and finished third in the SWAC conference. The team gained a lot of new players, which will hopefully result in them having an even better season. Janna Kourany has been on the team for two years and is a very valuable player and contributor to the team.
“I am really looking forward to this season and I hope that we can have a better record this season because I believe that there is definitely room for improvement,” Kourany stated, “We have been doing workouts before school and practices after school and I really believe that it is making us stronger as a team.”
Come out and support the Gators tonight at 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm as they face Broughton for their home opener. The theme of the student section will be USA out. Come support your fellow Gators!
