The women’s golf team had a very successful season. They got second place in the Quad City Seven Conference. At their Conference Finals, they earned fourth place at Keith Hills. At regionals, they earned Runner-up at Bentwinds Country Club. This led them to qualify for States, where they finished in fourth place earlier this week in Pinehurst.
The team had to deal with the harsh weather conditions at Pinehurst. It was rainy, windy, and cold. Rain makes it difficult to golf because of the puddles that develop on the course, which causes the ball to move more slowly. The rain also pushes the ball down while in the air, which messes up the ball’s flight. The wind can also mess up swinging speed and technique.
Senior captain Eliana Kim had an impressive season and even earned First Team All-Conference. She played in the harsh weather at States.
Kim said, “We had to layer up and take a little away from our swings. My team pushed through it, and we did pretty good, even through the rain.”
Kim is very proud of herself and her team for their progress during this season. This is the first year that Green Level has made it to States as a full five-girl team. This meant that they did very well in Regionals, not just individually but as a team.
Junior, Kathryn Karakostantis, was unfortunately sick during States, so she was unable to compete, but she’s still so proud of this team and what they were able to accomplish this season. She competed in Regionals and was a key factor in their qualification for States.
During Regionals, they were actually behind and weren’t sure if they were going to qualify for States.
Karakostantis said, “Then at the end we pulled through and qualified.”
This season, Green Level was neck and neck with Green Hope, who ended up getting first in conference. Each match against them was very intense since they were so competitive.
Different pre-match traditions helped them be successful this year. Aditi Pattisapu is a Junior who earned Second Team All-Conference. She competed in both Regionals and states. Pattisapu loved it when they would play music on the bus rides. Before each competition, they would play Mystical Magical by Benson Boone.
States was a great experience for all of them, especially since they got to miss school and play in Pinehurst.
Pattisapu said, “We got to play at Pinehurst 6, which was a really nice course, so that was really fun.”
Getting fourth place in States was a good way to end a very successful season. They had highs and lows, but they stayed together as a team throughout all adversity.
